The INTRAKAT co-founder of Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council of Greece "WTERT"
Paiania, November 24, 2008 – In the framework of the 3rd International Congress “ENERTECH 08” for the Renewable Energy Sources and the Energy Efficiency, the official presentation of Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council of Greece “WTERT”, co-founder of which is INTRAKAT, was held on Friday, November 21st, 2008, before a number of substantial members of the Greek and the international scientific community, the local self-government, businessmen and other organizations. Of pivotal importance was the participation of Mrs Ella Stengler, Managing Director of the European Confederation of Waste-to-Energy Research (CEWEP).
The Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council of Greece (WTERT, www.wtert.gr) was established in July 2008 by the Earth Engineering Centre in Columbia University of New York, the Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena Laboratory of School of Chemical Engineering of National Technical University of Athens, the Heat Transfer and Environmental Engineering Lab of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI and INTRAKAT while other participants include the CEWEP, the Democritus University of Thrace, the University of Ioannina, the University of Thessaly, the Technical University of Crete, the University of the Aegean, the Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia and the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus.
The core idea of the Council is the close cooperation of academic, research, public and industrial organizations that will help Greece to develop the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology and to rescue the precious Greek land for the future generations.
The mission is the development of Sustainable Waste Management (SWM) in Greece, which includes the whole waste management life cycle, with the criteria being the minimisation of environmental consequences and the maximization of recuperation of materials and energy, using scientific knowledge of various technologies of waste management in Greece and Worldwide. More specifically, the most important thing for mixed house wastes, is the mass burning technology with simultaneous production of energy, which is used in more than 600 units worldwide, and whose goal is the resolution of a really contemporary management problem of 5.5 millions of tons of annual house waste production in Greece.
Regarding INTRAKAT:
INTRAKAT was established in 1987 and is a member of INTRACOM HOLDINGS group of companies. Since November 1999, the company holds a 6th class contractor certificate of the Register of Contractor Companies, in November 2001 it was listed in the Athens Stock Exchange, while in 2005 it proceeded with the merger with absorption of INTRAMET (steel structures company).
